Love. My favorite topic. I’ve been researching this word since my teenage years. What is it really and why is it so misunderstood? I’d love to hear from you about your thoughts on this topic.

At the Evergreen School for Healing Arts the topic of “Love” was my final paper of our class. Scott, our instructor, asked after reading it why I hadn’t included personal love in the material. My answer was, I suppose, because I had no idea about personal love. That was in 1981.

Since that time, I have studied Ageless Wisdom concepts where I learned that Love is the all abiding force of our Solar System and Planet. The Second Aspect of Love/Wisdom is the guiding energy behind All that Is. Interesting, isn’t it?  Who would know that from looking at the way human beings treat one another on our planet?

My family told one another we loved each other all the time. I loved my pets, I loved my friends, I loved my work, my studies, my writings… I was pretty much a lover of life in general. I loved boldly, courageously, whole-heartedly, yet there was always that underlying discontent with certain aspects of life. Overall, yes, life was amazingly good to me. What was missing? How long could I get away with the pointer, who looked outside myself to others people and circumstances that made my life what it was. I knew I was the creator of my own reality. Seth had told me that in the early 70′s.  Projection, blaming, not owning or taking responsibility for my life, call it what you will, unconditional love wasn’t happening for me.

Being a Virgo, with a lot of 6th Ray in my constitution, I just wanted my life to be perfect. I longed for real love. I felt loved. I loved totally, yet, there was a missing something.

What I have come to is that there are different levels of love. The main categories, if one must be linear about it, are love with a capital “L” and love with a small “l”.

My persona or personality engages in love with a small ‘l’. This is because my personality continues to engage in emotional desires, attachments and  feelings of separateness. Observing human actions and reaction over a lifetime, relationships look and feel pretty ‘sticky’ to me. This means simply, there is something the other person wants in return for their ‘love. ‘  Sex, control, being taken care of, being provided for, or providing for another, status, approval from others, companionship and all the various reasons we engage in relationship come in to or out to play. Personal love is not really love at all to me. It needs a new name. Instead of “I love you,” perhaps we should honestly state “I long for you, I need you, I want you, I enjoy you, ” etc.

Once the “love” word is used, it’s kind of a “gotcha” scenario. Finders keepers, ownership, commitment, and all that stuff that begins to seep into an otherwise nice relationship. Call me a cynical, but I reserve Love for Oneness with All.

When would one use the love word with a capital “L”?

Real Love is something we can’t yet even fathom. Divine Love, Non-dual Love, Non-separative Love, Love of the Lord of the World…. now there you have capitals! Yet, how do we express Love, which is essentially non-dual, when as soon as we speak of it, it is dual? It is but a concept. Love just Is.

Getting the word out of our head and feeling what sticky love feels like can begin to give us real meaning. We can get a sense of what capital Love is as well, when we move into ‘altered’ states in meditation. Yet the word ‘altered’ doesn’t really work either, because those states are essential, free, lighted, Real, not altered. They just Are. When we are truly present and awake and empty, we begin to get a sense of Love. It’s simple, yet not easy! It’s an energy, or force behind the substance.

From want of other descriptors, I suppose we just default to loving this and that. Any ideas for new vocabulary here?

We create every moment of every day with our thoughts. That means my thoughts and my words put into living action my life.

Keeping track in each moment what exactly it is that I’m thinking means paying attention to being clear. The energy behind creating our lives the way we chose begins with being very aware of what our mind is doing. This means constant vigilance, or awareness at all times. It takes training to shift the mind into the kind of thinking and speaking that creates a positive existence.

There are four main parts of my life that I am working on. My physical body, my emotions or feeling body, my mind and my spiritual self. When the physical, emotional and mental are in balance, the spiritual clicks in. The higher self is the regulator, the overseer. The personality, or balance of the three, is only here to do Soul’s bidding.

So what this means, is we become more and more the conscious creator of our lives as we think, speak and act in accordance with our highest beliefs.

Here’s a challenge. Anyone want to play? I am going to make a mental note every single time I hear myself thinking anything less than positively.  This means thoughts like:
“I can’t do that”

“That person is wrong”

“That position is ridiculous”
Three simple positions. OK. No time like the present. I am counting. How about you?
What 3 statements can you write out and be accountable for that you would like to shift?
